FAQs
What is the difference between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage?
Answer:
Original Medicare consists of Part A (hospital insurance) and Part B (medical insurance), provided by the federal government. Medicare Advantage (Part C) is an all-in-one plan offered by private insurers, often including prescription drug coverage and additional benefits like dental and vision care.
When can I enroll in Medicare?
The Initial Enrollment Period for Medicare starts three months before you turn 65 and ends three months after your 65th birthday. There are also Special Enrollment Periods based on specific life events and an Annual Open Enrollment from October 15 to December 7.
Do I need a separate prescription drug plan?
If you have Original Medicare, you'll likely need to enroll in a separate Part D plan for prescription drug coverage. Some Medicare Advantage plans include prescription drug coverage, so a separate plan may not be necessary in that case.
